Building Diversified and Climate Resilient Rural Livelihoods, One Village at a Time

Objectives  

1. To provide a reliable and sustainable safe drinking water source to at least 30 households and nearby institutions

2. Promote adoption of climate resilient and diversified livelihoods, resource management and environmental action

3. Establish and strengthen already existing groups of rural women and young people cooperatives

4. Map available water sources and possible community garden centers in Makora rural community

5. Establish a sustainable market opportunity for surplus local produce.

Expected Outcomes 

  • Increased water and nutritious food security
  • Reduced negative coping strategies and/ improved community resilience to climate shocks
  • Enhanced biodiversity, resource management, land restoration and community lobbying
  • Employment creation and income generation through diversified livelihoods
  • Establish sustainable market(s) and linkages for local farm produce

Milestone

- 80 m borehole drilled and pump installed in September 2024 (seeking fund to install solar pumping system and proper pipping for easy accessibility)

- A household garden a established, w provide fresh vegetable to local communities and school

-30+ nearby household and Makora Business Center and related community development work are accessing water from this borehole

- Livestock are also depending on this source for water
