Promoting Eco-conversion through Environmental Education and Spirituality

Executive summary:

The calamities caused by the triple planetary crisis are increasingly becoming more complex and urgent. Anthropogenic activities has contributed much to the destruction of the ecological environment, hence there is a great need to encourage a positive change inclined towards integral ecology and human development.

Priority must be therefore rendered to efforts to raise awareness and encourage daily sustainable practices. An ecological knowledgeable community and/ individual is always aware of environmental threats and through self motivation, actions to solve such deviations can be easily implemented. “…However, we lack awareness of our common origin, of our mutual belonging, and of a future to be shared with everyone. The external deserts in the world are growing, because the internal deserts have become so vast.

For this reason, the ecological crisis is also a summons to profound interior conversion. To achieve such reconciliation, we must examine our lives and acknowledge the ways in which we have harmed God’s creation through our actions and our failure to act. We need to experience a conversion or change of heart”. This basic awareness would enable the development of new convictions, attitudes and forms of life (LS 202).

This proposed project therefore, seeks to instill a sense of a shared responsibility and ecological stewardship to promote sustainable living commitments and/ actions.
